About Me
- Jessica Schatzle
- Hello! For many years I've been a writer "by any other name". But in this new season of life as a mom I've realized more and more the importance of real connection, community and being a voice of hope in this wild new world. So here I am, officially calling myself a writer, eagerly looking to engage with you as I write to bring hope along the journey. If you're a new mama, an overwhelmed mama, or just find yourself in any new and unfamiliar season of life, I hope you'll find yourself right at home here.

Change your shoes, Change your life.
So I realize with a title like that, I've already lost the majority of my male readers.... sorry bout that.
A friend bought me a magnet with the quote "Change your shoes, change your life." I was grateful; it was a thoughtful gift. It's actually hanging on my fridge holding a picture as I type. However, I never really got it. I mean, I have more than a couple pairs of shoes in my closet just like any other girl, but I'm not really into shoes. I would go barefoot year round if I could. So this quote? Well, it just seemed kinda strange to me.
This weekend I was in a wedding where everyone was wearing Chuck Taylor shoes. So, I caved and wore some black Chuck's with my cliche chiffon little black dress. Ya, I know. Ridiculous AND awesome. After I got over feeling like a total nerd, I realized something. The way I was walking around while wearing my chuck's was all together different than the way I was walking around my house when trying on my dress with heels. Wearing my heels, I was a sophisticated and lovely woman. Wearing my chucks? I was a spunky and free-spirited girl. It was crazy, really. Same dress, same person in the dress, different shoes.
I finally got it. The quote, that is. Wearing different shoes changed a lot. I'll save the melodrama for another "girly" blog and not pretend that wearing Chuck Taylor's changed my life. (Although they are pretty sweet, I ain't gonna lie.) But it was interesting, none the less the difference my choice of shoes made.
So of course, I had to take it to a deeper level. I asked myself the same questions I ask you. What shoes have you been wearing that you need to just take off? Bitterness? Resentment? Jealousy? Entitlement? You fill in the blank. And what shoes do you need to decide right now to put on. Patience? Self Discipline? Truth? Selflessness? Love?
I know that old shoes are much more comfortable. The blister on my small toe is evidence of that. But exchanging comfort for redemption is hardly a good trade. Change your shoes, Change your life.

Jess! I love this! I need to think about what shoes to put on or take off. I also love that you wore your chucks to a wedding. Thanks for sharing:)
