....for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
I saw this quote on a sign at the doctor's office and it sunk in deeply. I'm not sure if 29 is the magical number of years that it takes in one's life before the idealistic, naive, care-free, fairy tale world that we live in disappears into a sea of unpaid bills, unexplained medical complications, unattainable dreams, unmet desires, unreal pain, unimaginable grief, etc. etc. etc.; but it sure seems as if A LOT of people I know and love dearly are fighting fierce battles right now. And I'm not talking about having a bad day at work. I mean all-out-put-on-your-war-paint battles. And many of them are fighting silently. Internal wars are being waged and people are being tormented from the inside out. Life is not easy. It's not for the faint of heart.
So the next time the secretary doesn't look up from her desk to greet you with a smile, or the waitress at the restaurant seems as if she'd rather be anywhere other than work, remember a battle is being fought. You may not see swords or guns or blood, but believe me, there are bruises and wounds- many of them are gaping. Your response in that moment might be the difference between one battle won, one hill conquered and one more casualty.
So..... "be kinder than necessary for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle."
About Me
- Jessica Schatzle
- Hello! For many years I've been a writer "by any other name". But in this new season of life as a mom I've realized more and more the importance of real connection, community and being a voice of hope in this wild new world. So here I am, officially calling myself a writer, eagerly looking to engage with you as I write to bring hope along the journey. If you're a new mama, an overwhelmed mama, or just find yourself in any new and unfamiliar season of life, I hope you'll find yourself right at home here.
